What is Yukata?
Yukata is a Japanese traditional garment.
It is like a simplified kimono or casual kimono.
It is a popular garment for Japanese to wear for joining festivals and bon-dance and watching fireworks.
Yukata is also used at ryokan (Japanese style hotel) and hot spring for a relaxing wear.

Rakuten to buy Yukata
You can buy Yukata at a store in town, but I recommend you to buy one from online store because...
- there are more selections to choose from
- they are usually cheaper
- they have more size options
When I shop online in Japan, I usually use Rakuen, Yahoo! Shopping, or Amazon Japan.
For Yukata, I highly recommend buying one from Rakuen.
For Japanese products, Rakuten has the biggest selections and reasonably prised products.
Also, you can earn points at each shopping and they do have discount sales once in a while, too.

Putting Yukata on kids is easy, but putting yukata on by yourself is not as easy as you do to others (at least, for me).
As an option, you can wear Jinbei for yourself.
What is Jinbei?
A jinbei (甚平) (alternately jinbē (甚兵衛) or hippari (ひっぱり)) is a traditional set of Japanese-clothing worn by men, women and children during summer. Consisting of a side-tying, tube-sleeved kimono-style top and a pair of trousers, jinbei were originally menswear only, though in recent years, women's jinbei have become popular.

Kids can wear Jinbei as well and lots of men choose to wear Jinbei instead of Yukata for summer festivals.
It is suitable for summer, so my kids wear Jinbei as Pajama during summer.

What to wear for Yukata and Jinbei?
When wearing Yukata or Jinbei, geta (wooden clogs) is typically woren.
However, walking with geta is not a comfortable thing, especially for long distance or time.
I recommend you to wear regular sandals or marine shose.
