How do you book a hotel in Japan?

Rakuten Travel is Japan's largest online hotel booking website and has access to more than 24,000 Japanese hotels.

What is great about Rakuten Travel is that they run SUPERSALE once in a while and you can book a hotel in a very reasonable price!

In this article, you will get informed how to book a hotel by Rakuten Travel.

First of all, you need to create your account on Rakuten, but it will only take 5 minutes.

Choosing a hotel, room, and plan

First, click "view participating hotels in advance" with your desired coupon.

go to Rakuten Travel

Then, you will get a list of hotels.

click "Date" to narrow your options.

Fill out the required items and "search"

In order to choose a location from the tab, you need to translate where you want to stay in advance to make the search easier.

For example, if you want to stay in Fukuoka, you need to know it's written "福岡” in Japanese.

Usually, the name of the prefecture appears from north to south in Japan, so you will find Fukuoka towards the end.

Then, you will be asked what city (area) you would like to stay in Fukuoka.

You need to know how the city is written in Japanese, too to narrow the options for the search.

You will find how the city is written in Japanese by just typing in a search bar on the web.

For example, search "Tenjin Fukuoka", then you will find Japanese "天神” in your search.

After you narrow the search, you will get lists of hotels.

When you find the hotel you are interested in, click "see all options for this hotel" to see available rooms and plans.

*Make sure in advance where the hotel is located by google maps or something similar.

You will find some plans and rooms available for this hotel.

Choose the plan/room that you like and click "see details".

If you like the plan/room, then make a reservation!

How to book a hotel

Here is what you will be asked after you click "reserve" button.

Just follow the instructions in the below pictures and you are all set!!

I recommend you to write that you are not Japanese speaker at the remarks.

You will get a email after you made a reservation.

If there are something that you don't understand, I recommend you to use a translation app.

Prefectural Discount Coupons

Find a hotel with a prefectual discount coupon

This is a coupon that applies for "local customer" with some conditions.

For example, if you live in Sasebo and book a hotel somewhere in Kyusyu area.

Then, most of the case, you can use this coupon.

This coupon gives you up to 15,000 yen discount on a hotel fee of over 30,000 yen.

Condition?

You need to prove that you have received third vaccination of Covid-19 or have tested nagative with PCR test within 3 days of your stay.

Kids will be excluded for this if parent(s) provides that you are low risk of spreading Covid-19.

You will also need to provide where you live (driver's license, etc).
